Many individuals along the Fox river caught clams to add a little cash to their pockets. There was a thriving business activity of clamming located on the banks of river near Princeton. The clams were first processed into rough buttons and then finished off in exquisite detail and polished. The final process was done in Berlin in a building owned by Nighbor Fur Company. Most of the buttons from the Fox River were shipped overseas and sold on the European market. The quality of the buttons from the Fox River far exceeded other sources for the buttons.
